Soteriology is the study of the doctrine of salvation. Soteriology discusses how Christ’s death secures the salvation of those who believe. It helps us to understand the doctrines of redemption, justification, sanctification, propitiation, and the substitutionary atonement. Some common questions in studying Soteriology are: Once saved always saved? Perhaps the most heart-wrenching fear some believers live with is that we can do something to lose our salvation. But the Bible speaks clearly about the eternality of our salvation and how we are preserved by the One who bought us with His blood. Is salvation by faith alone, or by faith plus works? Am I saved just by believing in Jesus, or do I have to believe in Jesus and do certain things? Is baptism required for salvation? What is baptismal regeneration? Baptismal regeneration is the belief that a person must be baptized in order to be saved. While baptism is an important step of obedience for a Christian, the Bible is clear that baptism is not a requirement for salvation. What is repentance and is it necessary for salvation? Biblical repentance is changing your mind about Jesus Christ and turning to God in faith for salvation (Acts 3:19). Turning from sin is not the definition of repentance, but it is one of the results of genuine, faith-based repentance towards the Lord Jesus Christ. What does it mean to be a born again Christian? The phrase "born again" literally means "born from above." It is an act of God whereby eternal life is imparted to the person who believes—a spiritual transformation. Other than Christology, Soteriology is the area where Christianity is the most different from the cults and other world religions. Understanding Biblical Soteriology will help us to know why salvation is by grace alone (Ephesians 2:8-9), through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. No other religion bases salvation on faith alone. Soteriology helps us to see why. A clear understanding of our salvation will provide a "peace that passes all understanding" (Philippians 4:7) because we come to know that He who can never fail is the means by which we were saved and the means by which we remain secure in our salvation. If we were responsible to save ourselves and keep ourselves saved, we would fail. Thank God that is not the case! Titus 3:5-8 is a tremendous summary of Soteriology, "He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life." From www.gotquestions.org/Soteriology.htmlThat this is copied from a Calvinistic website, good and helpful as it may be, is and indication of tilting the conversation in a particular direction from the start. Soteriology, is the study of salvation as revealed in scripture. Many of the things mentioned above are commendable and good, but the study of these things, in itself, is not the answers proffered as unquestionable in the post. Yes, we are saved by grace, through faith in Christ alone, not by works! And yes, we do not have to be baptized in order to be saved! But the question of Eternal Security is not a foregone conclusion and the question of repentance, as answered above, is double-talk! Note the explanation above regarding repentance: What is repentance and is it necessary for salvation? Biblical repentance is changing your mind about Jesus Christ and turning to God in faith for salvation (Acts 3:19). Turning from sin is not the definition of repentance, but it is one of the results of genuine, faith-based repentance towards the Lord Jesus Christ. But if repentance is changing your mind about Jesus Christ and turning to God in faith for salvation, then it is most certainly a turning from sin. Repentance is always in relation to our lifestyle behaviors because we are claiming a change of understanding about our lifestyle choices! We once saw them as "living" life as we thought productive and fulfilling, but now see them as contrary to life and destructive. You cannot believe the gospel without turning from, repenting of, our sinful behaviors. As for OSAS, the language of scripture is more profuse in its claims of the real potential falling away that it is in any clear and unobstructed meaning of absolute certainty! As Paul states in Rom 8:12-13, "Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. This is all I have time for, now, but will engage more fully to any rebuttal. Great explanation Doug. I like how you emphasized that repentance also includes turning away from any effort to save ourselves. I find that often people think of repentance as simply turning away from sin. They do not consider that it also involves turning away from the things people may do to earn salvation. Jesus is only way!

turning from sin
question. how can someone turn from sin when they are lost and can not understand what sin is yet because they have not been born again?
Admitting you have sinned and fallen short is one thing. promising you will stop sin is another thing.
its almost like telling God,. I will stop all these sins if you save me..
to me, a person turns from sin as they are born again and given the spirit to help and empower them to understand each sin and helps them to turn from it.
just asking

Here we can see the bias from Got Questions- They are reformed/calvinistic and deny synergism. www.gotquestions.org/monergism-vs-synergism.htmlIn conclusion, the weight of the logical evidence and the weight of the biblical evidence supports the monergistic view of salvation—God is the author and perfector of our salvation (Hebrews 12:2). He who began a good work in us will perfect it on the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6). Monergism not only has a profound impact on how one views salvation, but on evangelism as well. If salvation is solely based on God’s saving grace, then there is no room for us to boast, and all the glory goes to Him (Ephesians 2:8-9). In addition, if God actually saves people, then our evangelistic efforts must bear fruit because God has promised to save the elect. Monergism equals greater glory to God!

we are helpless after losing our original situation… because of adam
this is not an abstraction about free choice or not… we are literally in a prison…
cosmology was affected by the fall
rapture (the Change) is about returning to our nature and our Home … …
