Christ Is Wisdom
We preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
1 CORINTHIANS 1:23-24
Christ is the wisdom of God, so to know Him is to know and understand godly wisdom. The life of Jesus illustrates wisdom for us, and His teaching educates us in wisdom. Christians are able to grow in godly wisdom when they’re in relationship with God the Son. The source of wise counsel is found in Christ. Just as pure water bubbles from the crevice of a remote mountain rock, so God’s living water of truth flows from the heart of Jesus.
Because wisdom starts with Jesus, our journey to becoming wise begins with a personal relationship with Christ. The Holy Scriptures declare a Savior who loves and receives all who come to Him in faith and repentance. Salvation in Jesus Christ is the first step required to obtain His wisdom. Fear of God leads to faith in God, which can then access the wisdom of God. Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ? If so, you are very wise.
“You have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15).
Having access to wisdom through faith in Jesus, we are then wise to lean into understanding His ways. Like a starved man coming off of a ten-day hunger strike, we can anticipate enjoying a smorgasbord of truth. Christ’s wisdom is rich in relational nutrients, financial nourishment, and emotional energy. Your Savior Jesus is not stingy with His counsel—He liberally gives wisdom to those He loves.
As the personification of wisdom, Jesus unconditionally loved people. He loved rich and poor, Jew and Gentile, male and female. He loved city folks and country dwellers. The educated and uneducated felt His fierce love. Kings and commoners did not escape His all-consuming compassion. Jesus, the all-wise one, initiated conversations of wisdom wherever He went.
Who in your circle of influence is hungry for the wisdom of Christ? Whom can you love by sharing His counsel? Once you discover His freeing truth, you are responsible to pay it forward by faith to other hungry hearts. Lead people to the waters of Christ’s wisdom, and they will never thirst again. You will be giving a cup of wisdom in Jesus’s name, and you will show them how to draw from the deep well of His wisdom themselves. Jesus is the wisdom of God.
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts” (Colossians 3:16).
What steps can I take to search the Holy Scriptures, gain Christ’s wisdom, and grow to know Him better?
