I’ve witnessed the control first hand as if they are the church with the authority from Jesus to reprimand and control its membership . I know what you're talking about been there done that. But the differences is we could have closed that web page anytime we wanted. On top of that there's some real hardcore opposition that do battle with them day after day after day. They put up with the insults, the mockery, Name-calling and they never give them an inch. They're not being controlled in the slightest. Take our buddy from Florida for instance. And I was thinking about all the rules/ control some online forums have over the freedom of religion as if they operate as a church denomination. Its apples and oranges. The very nature of online forums are disagreements, doctrinal differences, protestant denominational sects, catholics, mormons, unitarians, modalists, eastern religions, agnostics, atheists etc........
You don't have that at the local church hence there is unity within the local body and God given leadership that oversees the flock. That is not true with online forums and the ones who think otherwise fall under the cult/sect mentality that is in the OP.
And I personally don't want any part of that kind of forum. The only thing we ask here is just be respectful as in the golden rule since no two people agree on everything. Heck my wife and I don't lol. My son in law who is a pastor and my daughter see things differently than I do and I've mentored them but we still have unity and accountability at our church.

Right on now I see what you're saying. They're all about control. They want you to believe what they believe Even when it's wrong. And that would definitely be a tactic of a cult as it's the same trick Satan uses to get you to believe the lie. That's why it's so important as Jesus commanded us to abide in him in his word. His word will set you free and you won't fall for the lie. And as you know one of their main strategies is to twist the word around as in all doesn't mean all and world doesn't mean world.

Yes I'm glad you can see the distinction and how it relates to the church and online forums which are not the church and have no authority over the beliefs of others no matter what kool-aid they are trying to get you to drink. To restrict the freedom of others to express their beliefs and share them, discuss them and defend them is controlling them, especially when the one with the opposing beliefs is ridiculed for them.
There are some essentials worth defending but not at the expense of mockery and name calling. Let your words be seasoned with salt so that it might give grace to those who hear and be ready to give a defense(apologetic) to those who ask you about the hope you have but with gentleness and patience.
hope this helps !!!
