I have often mused over the notion that hardly a soul in at least western civilization, has not been exposed to the Gospel--and in recent years, this is becoming the case all over. I make a distinction between intellectual inquiry and 'hearing' of course. Nevertheless, the word has gone out. If nothing else, just consider the Christmas Story. Christmas story? Rom 10:18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. How shall they hear WITHOUT.... Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! I am not sure whether or not your post if a refutation of something I wrote (Christmas story?)? Or if you just adding to the thought. Anyway--to be clear, what I mean to communicate is that the Holy Spirit and God the Father are perfectly capable of using the Christmas story to bring ones to Christ, to convict of sin and to Glorify His name as Christ is lifted up. Or put another way--God is not impotent to accomplish His will.

Romans 10:8-17 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 [f]that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then are they to call on Him in whom they have not believed? How are they to believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? 15 But how are they to preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who [j]bring good news of good things!”
16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Notice the word "nigh" here in these two verses. An appeal to those who have the covenants and promises. (National Israel).... even having the promises they were still.... ONLY NIGH (NEAR) to God. Not IN God from the foundation of the world. Through the Blood and Body of Jesus Christ were who were DISTANT are also NOW made NIGH... I wish every person knew just how "CLOSE" they are to Jesus Christ. He can be touched. He is listening......

Do we believe that if we refused to preach the Gospel that some souls will not get saved?
No. We do not. There are reports of the Holy Spirit speaking directly to people, and giving them dreams and visions which lead them to faith in Christ. Mat 3:9 And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. God knows from before Creation those whose hearts will harden and those that will yield to His Word, whether it is spoken directly or by messengers and preachers. These He has predestined for salvation. Act 10:19-23 As Peter continued to reflect on the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you. (20) So get up! Go downstairs and accompany them without hesitation, because I have sent them.” (21) So Peter went down to the men and said, “Here am I, the one you are looking for. Why have you come?” (22) “Cornelius the centurion has sent us,” they said. “He is a righteous and God-fearing man with a good reputation among the whole Jewish nation. A holy angel instructed him to request your presence in his home so he could hear a message from you.” (23) So Peter invited them in as his guests. And the next day he got ready and went with them, accompanied by some of the brothers from Joppa.

There are reports of the Holy Spirit speaking directly to people, and giving them dreams and visions which lead them to faith in Christ. Interesting experience .... I had dreams and visions after getting saved. But? I did not know I was saved. When I became saved I was clueless (being Jewish) that anything was to change me. While reading a tract handed to me I simply found myself wanting to believe in Jesus. Did I know much about Jesus? No. I was thinking that he was a perfect man who never sinned because he loved God that much. A man who loved God, and wanted us to know the love for God that he had. I could not make sense of one dream that came true ten years later. It so happened to be about a Bible college I attended. A school that did not exist when I was given the dream...
