Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
The assumption made by many is that these verses establish that man must be regenerated BEFORE He can respond to God.
However, there is no such condition established in the verses. These verses are a statement of fact. Not a conditional means of establishing a relationship with God.
I'll state clearly that I can't please God..... NO man can please God.....
However, Jesus Christ DID. Not me. Not you. Jesus Christ DID.
The work of God in Jesus Christ establishes the beginnings of a relationship with sinful man. So when "many" claim Romans 8:7-8 proves that fleshly men can't have a relationship with God without first being regenerated, they are making a false claim. They are reading their doctrine INTO the Scriptures.

I love Romens 8 and 6 and 7 and 9 ok I love the book of Romans. “In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” ( Luke 15:8-10) This isn’t simply saying there’s joy in heaven. I’m sure there is joy in heaven when a sinner repents, but this is talking about the joy of God Himself. His stands before the angels

I personally believe that is God Himself that rejoices in the presence of the angels when one sinner repents. Those angels are always paying attention to the Father. No one else..... Mat 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. This verse is also one of the reasons I believe repentance is the last step in redemption. It is the point wherein man and God's mind come into agreement about his/her condition. That is a very Holy point in the process where we pass from death to life.

One of the things I've always liked to think about in the Bible when it tells us about it the ministry of Jesus here on earth when he walked among Us is that he always seemed to enjoy watching us have a good time. Like at a marriage celebration. Yes I definitely believe that he wants our joy to be complete. I think the only way that Happens is to abide in him. Righteousness, peace, and joy in the holy ghost, that's the kingdom of God Romans 14:17

When I was a much younger man, I spent extensive time studying Jonathan Edwards and the "Great Awakenings". It is a very interesting study in contrasts between Edwards and Finney. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Finney was a Calvinist. A Presbyterian Minister in the descending line from Calvin (The "father" of the Presbyterian assembly along with John Knox). There are plenty of Calvinists that want to pretend that Calvinism has always had a perfect record of compliance to the Westminster Confession of Faith or the Synod of Dort. That isn't true. Just like all denominational doctrine. People disagree. Finney being a extreme example for Calvinism. Peace is an emotion. Love is an emotion. Joy is an EMOTIONAL. We are emotional because God is emotional. There are good emotion and there bad emotions. I digress a little but stop and consider. God is a jealous God. Jealousy comes from a sense of "ownership"..... We don't own anything. God owns everything. He has a RIGHT to jealousy. We do not. Not that I don't get jealous. I do.
