...PS I remember those dial up days when 14.4 was screaming fast lol. And maxed out at 57.6, during my time though; then our system switched to a Service Provider; the rest is history.

You could max out at about 115k through the compression capabilities of the modem. And then, if you had the money, you could get two modems and two phone lines and shotgun the modems for up to double the speed. (That was at the end of the age of dial up modems, as you need software and computer power to handle two high speed dialup modems. Both ends had to support it.

Haha never went that far but always upgraded to the fastest modem that was available. I remember the first one we used was a 300 baud modem card in an Apple IIe; I think at that time baud and bps were the same.
