This one I found myself wondering what in the world are they doing? In skimming through the article, I was reminded of Isaiah 29:13, and Matthew 15:8-9.
Poster: www.apuritansmind.com/arminianism/john-calvins-view-of-limited-atonement/Our conclusion, on balance, is that definite atonement fits better than universal grace into the total pattern of Calvin’s teaching." -- from an article by Dr. Roger Nicole.
“I should like to know how the wicked can eat the flesh of Christ which was not crucified for them, and how they can drink the blood which was not shed to expiate their sins.” -- John Calvin.
A lengthy article worth the read.
Me: Indeed interesting.
You know what I saw (purely my observation)....
A bunch of people quoting other people who were quoting yet, more, other people, splattering a collection of bible references throughout the article.
Is this really what calvinists do, is quote the teachings of men, and then use them as doctrine to be taught as the commandments of God?
This is just bizarre to me. I see the value of examining the ideas of commentators for complex issues and ideas that have various implications. But this seems to me to be over the top.
As you can see, I made my point.... hearkening back to my comment last week of-- tossing a cat into a room filled with rocking chairs and a hand grenade for "good" measure.

Calvinistic doctrines are not gleaned from the Bible, but rather they are artificially superimposed upon the clear declaration of the text. Within Calvinism, the reconciliation of such inconsistencies is managed repeatedly by the creation of extra-biblical reconcilers like the Calvinistically-generated “mystery” and what I non-pejoratively describe as double talk. Double talk is a rhetorical practice that obscures, elides, or simply misrepresents the harsh realities and inconsistencies found in Calvinism, which I do not believe are found in the simple reading of Scripture. The article by Dr. Roger Nicole seems to be a case in point.

It literally struck me as a perfect example of Isaiah's comment .

I think your right.
Isaiah 29:13 “Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:”
I think this is a common occurrence with most cults.Ish
