The OT saints were saved by their attempted obedience to the Law which were types and shadows of Christ to come. The sacrifices covered their failures which symbolized the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Likewise, water baptism per Acts 2:38 symbolizes salvation via the blood sacrifice for the NT believers.

We are baptized into Christ's death per Rom 6, which is bloody.
