The Character of God

The Character of God is expressed in God's DESIRES. God's desires are clear indications of what "motivates" God.

Our Lord Jesus was so profound, yet at times so simple. He used very simple arguments to disarm false teachers. For example. Jesus made a very simple argument to those who denied Eternal life. So very simple. God is not the God of the DEAD.

Luk 20:37  But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. 
Luk 20:38  Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.” 


In like manner, there things so very simple in the Scriptures that CLEARLY and OVERWHELMING indicate God's desires. It is unmistakable.

Psa 150:1  Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 
Psa 150:2  Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 
Psa 150:3  Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 
Psa 150:4  Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 
Psa 150:5  Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 
Psa 150:6  Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! 

Let EVERYTHING that has breath, praise the Lord. In this, you find God's desire. God's character in a uniform and exacting decree..... God desires that everything that He has given breath to..... PRAISE HIM..

He is WORTHY... to be praised.

There is healing in praising God. There is comfort in praising God. Praising God through our worship can literally heal our pain. Mend our minds. Focus our actions. Disarm our enemies. Sharpen our focus upon the things that really are important.

My best fulfillment is in considering what/who God is. And that happens best with acknowledging what he says about himself in Scripture —not with things I can say to improve on it. 

Worship is many things: It is telling others what God is; it is telling God what he is like to us; it is telling each other to look at Him; it is pouring out our hearts to him, it is begging him to tell us more, to fill us with living water and living bread to sustain us, because nothing else will satisfy what he has done in us. It is what we will be doing for eternity, and I can hardly wait to get past this stasis of temporal pain. Yet, I have to say, this, too, is worship, to partake in his suffering. We belong to Christ, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But my poor words are painful. They don't do justice to the facts of what he has done for us and in us. 

Worship is painful. And worship is easy and it is difficult. And worship is joy. We find we MUST thank him, we find ourselves resisting him, begging him for strength just to describe him to others who love him too. What patience he has!, when we demand him to overwhelm us, instead of giving ourselves without reservation to what we KNOW we can trust. 

The Character of God is often marred by our own reflections.

1Co 13:12  For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

As we mature, we see ourselves differently and what God wants "mirrored" of Himself in us......comes into view
