Now this is something we can agree about.

Obadiah I started on 8/5/22. I am 21% complete so far. Completed: Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Matthew. Currently on: Mark 14. Awesome. I'm studying Colossians. It's a deep dive and I'm still in chapter one. In my Bible you're on about page 1431. It's nice to see someone that takes their Bible Reading seriously.

My favourites are "Normal Christian Life" and "The Life That Wins", both by Watchman Nee. My greatest influence is the late Ivor P Marshall. He is almost unknown, but my mentor for 30 years. The Normal Christian Life really brings out what I consider to be the unique and true way one should think about what Jesus did on the cross relative to our Old Man our old sinful nature. I have my own you tube channel where I do some teaching series and did one called "Freedom from Sin?" But with a question mark. How exactly is sin conquered in our lives can we expect victory some of the time, all of the time, periodically? If someone wanted the link I could send it. I quote a lot from his book. Many feel they've got a right understanding of the old man in us and on what basis are we free. Are we even free at all and how to manifest that freedom Christ has provided.

So God got it wrong when He appointed apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers to the church? No God was 100% correct. God has given us some good pastors and teachers that have written some good books on the bible. But they are secondary sources. Our primary and all sufficient source is Scripture- 2 Timothy 3:16. 2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” The Word of God is alive because God is a living God ( Hebrews 3:12). Jesus said, “The very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life” ( John 6:63). Jesus compared God’s Word to seed ( Matthew 13:1–23). Seed, like the Word, is a living organism that, when spread and planted in fertile soil, produces abundant life, a fruitful life that is evident for all to see, unlike the unfruitful Fig Tree that Jesus cursed in Mark 11:14. The New birth comes from the Word. Christians are made alive spiritually and eternally because we are “born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God” ( 1 Peter 1:23) Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ ( Romans 10:17) There is no other book in all creation that is living, alive, transforms the heart permanently. The term active in Hebrews 4:12 means “effective, powerful, producing or capable of producing an intended result.” The Word of God is vibrant, dynamic, energizing, and productive. It is not static or idle in the lives of genuine believers. The apostle Paul explained that the Word of God is “at work in you who believe” ( 1 Thessalonians 2:13). The author of Hebrews described the Word of God as “sharper than any double-edged sword.” Paul called it “the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” ( Ephesians 6:17) It is the only offensive weapon in the armor for the believer. Jesus used the word of God to refute satan in the temptation in the wilderness. We have the same access as believers to the word of God, the word of truth to combat sin and our enemy. 2 Peter 1:19We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Psalm 119:11- Thy Word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against Thee. Delight to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart ( Psalm 40:8) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. ( Psalm 1:2) This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in all you do. ( Joshua 1:8) Memorizing Scripture and hiding in our hearts can give us victory over sin. Cultivating meditation on Gods word is transforming. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will ( Romans 12:2) and like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation ( 1 Peter 2:2) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)Gods word applied to our lives causes our growth as believers, followers of Christ who are His disciples. hope this helps !!!

Well, since one poster listed the collection of the top selling books of all time, I'll focus on some lesser, but equally interesting books.
Several years ago I got intrigued by what I'm told is known as "Missiology." Aka, the study of missionary work around the world. In this particular case, Africa and Asia.
I've found 3 books which have been enjoyable.
The first author was a missionary in Africa. Apparently they were the the United states military was in Somalia in the early 90's. They'd been involved in humanitarian efforts there, and as history bore out.... it was a massive nightmare.
The nom d'plume of the author is Nik Ripkin.
He wrote two books.
The Insanity of God: a faith restored
The Insanity of Obedience.
The second book is bourn out of the first. Apparently the heartbreak of Somalia was so big, they changed the direction of their work. It became something of a research project on why the body of Christ appears to thrive in the most gruesome of circumstances.
I strongly recommend both.
The third one is by an actual missiologist. David Harrison.
The title is:
A Wind in the House of Islam: How God Is Drawing Muslims Around the World to Faith in Jesus Christ
I really enjoyed this book.
For reasons beyond my awareness, about a decade ago, I began getting curious about the church in China. I'd been hearing stories. So the books I mentioned by Nik were brought to my attention.
During my reading them, I began hearing stories about Jesus making himself known amongst the Muslim people, by dreams and rather curious clandestine stories.
I began praying because I had become aware of the importance of praying for the work of God throughout the world. Jesus said- pray that the Lord of the harvest will send workers into the fields to harvest.
This brought David's book to my attention.
While it may seem insignificant, the people of Islam are turning to Jesus in good sized numbers.
With Nik's second book....
There are stories of the church in China that God is doing things that we've only dreamed of here in the United states.
So.... while the European and American body of Christ may seem like they're floundering.... in China and Russia and the various "houses" of Islam are being rocked by YHVH, the True and Living God.

As for my present bible reading, I'm in 1 Samuel 21.
I began a new reading habit a couple years ago.
I'd reached Jude, and was about to enter Revelation.
Several years ago I heard about a guy who was reading the bible, each book, 6 times in a row . Yep.... struck me as odd too. But, he'd read a book, and go back through, and read it again, and again.... 6 times.
I tried it, but ugh! Uh... no! I of course prayed and said- God, if this will actually help me know you and the Word better, you'll have to work this in me.
Well, October 2020, I entered Revelation for I don't know how many times I'd read the bible before over the years. But I read it.... and thought.... hey. Let me do this again. Yeah, you guessed it... six times. One chapter a day.... so.... 22 chapters, 6 times. 132 days.
Then I went into Genesis. 6 times. I'm up to 1 Samuel now. But since Joshua, I've been doing 3 chapters each day. The story narrative format makes it easier. Joshua had 24 chapters. So 8 days. That's only 6 weeks. Judges, 21 chapters, 6 weeks. 1 Samuel 31 chapters, 10 days (I read the last 4 chapters the same day). So 2 months.
I realize that this is a lot of detail. It's to give some perspective on the length of time involved for each. Not to show off, so please don't take it that way.
Each book, 6 times.
And yes, each time I get into a book, I find myself wondering-- Steve! What are you doing?! This is nuts. And I pray, and ask God-- if this will help me know you and your word better, I'm going to need you to bolster me here.
I'm on my 4th run through 1 Samuel right now.
It's been quite interesting. Definitely tedious at times. Especially with Leviticus and Numbers.
Psalms might become a real challenge. 150 chapters. But 119 even more so, because it has 176 verses.... In the past I've used the 8 verse breakdown to go through it.
I'm definitely learning a lot.
I won't try claiming it's not for the faint of heart. Grace is sustaining me.... 🤣🤷🏽♂️
Grace and Peace be with you.

I may give it a try with a small N.T epistle. Baby steps.

Back in the days of cassette tapes, I had a job where I could wear a Walkman all day. I knew the repetition thing really would get things in one where it becomes a part of one. A general read is good but a saturation read is very good too. I do both. Back in those days I had 6 cassette tapes. Some were the Bible on tape and sometimes a tape would be a good Bible teaching. It came to me about the 6 thing for God told Israel to march around Jericho 6 times or for six days and then blow the trumpets...VICTORY would come. Again not saying one should create a six time doctrine hahaha....but it can get things in you with a focus. Other ways of saying it, it's like a rain storm....a fast quick storm runs off very quickly and doesn't penetrate into the Earth but a slow rain over a couple of days more so sinks down into the ground.

Hi. No. Not doing a 6 time doctrine thing.🤣 I still think about stopping, and just returning to a once through, and then read again. But, I committed myself to this.... I've also thought about writing the bible out during my reading. I've heard several times that is a good way to learn too. 🤔😏
