The Gospel is the good news which is the power of God that brings forth salvation to everyone who believes.
Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
Jesus taught more on the Kingdom of God( the gospel ) than any other topic or doctrine.
Jesus mentions the Kingdom over 100 times in the gospels. It is the most important thing Jesus taught during His earthly ministry. Here are just a few passages on the kingdom from the 4 gospels. The kingdom is like a multi-faceted diamond and the gospel is the core-center of that diamond. There are many facets to the kingdom but there is only one gospel that saves. Your response tells me you have not given the subject any serious thought. Mark 1:14-15 Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Luke 17:21 Nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” John 18:36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world; if it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now, My kingdom is not of this realm." Romans 14:17 Paul declared that the kingdom of God is a matter “of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” 1-The kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom ! 2-Jesus declared that His kingdom was not of this world in John 18:36, 3-Jesus preached that repentance is necessary to be a part of the kingdom of God in Matthew 4:17 4-Jesus said to Nicodemus that the kingdom of God can be equated with salvation in John 3:5–7, where Jesus says the kingdom of God must be entered into by being born again in John 3:3- Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. There is One God There is One Lord There is One Faith There is One Baptism There is One Jesus There is only One way to God There is One Savior And there is One Gospel Galatians 1:6 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. So since there is only One God, One Savior, One way to God through Christ, One faith, One baptism and One Gospel- there is only one way to be saved.
Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom- the gospel
1 Corinthians 1:10-31 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.”
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
What is the Gospel you ask ?
Paul defines that Gospel by which we are saved below: 1 Corinthians 15:1-19 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. 12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. Only One way to be saved, by One Person, One Gospel and One Faith. In Him alone. Scripture is really very exclusive here but inclusive to all that come to Him freely! Revelation 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying overhead, with the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation and tribe and tongue and people Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, Jesus passed on the gospel to His Disciples. Its the same Gospel but Christ had not suffered, died, risen yet. The disciples didn't understand the Passion until after His Resurrection, they were in denial. Before His Resurrection Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand…. I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am.” — John 13:7,19 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. — John 2:22 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. — Matthew 16:21 Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!” — Matthew 20:17-19 After His Resurrection He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. — Luke 24:25-27 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. — Luke 24:44-45 hope this helps !!!

I heard RC Sproul say that over 90% of seminary graduates could not accurately convey what the gospel is so it’s no wonder so many have a distorted or false gospel . Here is RC below :
There is no greater message to be heard than that which we call the gospel. But as important as that is, it is often given to massive distortions or over simplifications. People think they’re preaching the gospel to you when they tell you, ‘you can have a purpose to your life’, or that ‘you can have meaning to your life’, or that ‘you can have a personal relationship with Jesus.’ All of those things are true, and they’re all important, but they don’t get to the heart of the gospel.
The gospel is called the ‘good news’ because it addresses the most serious problem that you and I have as human beings, and that problem is simply this: God is holy and He is just, and I’m not. And at the end of my life, I’m going to stand before a just and holy God, and I’ll be judged. And I’ll be judged either on the basis of my own righteousness–or lack of it–or the righteousness of another. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus lived a life of perfect righteousness, of perfect obedience to God, not for His own well being but for His people. He has done for me what I couldn’t possibly do for myself. But not only has He lived that life of perfect obedience, He offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice to satisfy the justice and the righteousness of God.
The great misconception in our day is this: that God isn’t concerned to protect His own integrity. He’s a kind of wishy-washy deity, who just waves a wand of forgiveness over everybody. No. For God to forgive you is a very costly matter. It cost the sacrifice of His own Son. So valuable was that sacrifice that God pronounced it valuable by raising Him from the dead–so that Christ died for us, He was raised for our justification. So the gospel is something objective. It is the message of who Jesus is and what He did. And it also has a subjective dimension. How are the benefits of Jesus subjectively appropriated to us? How do I get it? The Bible makes it clear that we are justified not by our works, not by our efforts, not by our deeds, but by faith–and by faith alone. The only way you can receive the benefit of Christ’s life and death is by putting your trust in Him and in Him alone. You do that, you’re declared just by God, you’re adopted into His family, you’re forgiven of all of your sins, and you have begun your pilgrimage for eternity.
hope this helps !!!

There is no salvation apart from believing in the gospel message that was preached by the Apostles. What are the essentials of the gospel ? The word gospel means “ good news,” which is the message of forgiveness for sin through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. It is essentially God’s rescue plan of redemption for those who will trust in His divine Son in order to be reconciled to a just and holy God. The essential content of this saving message is clearly laid out for us in the Bible. In the apostle Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he lays out the content of the gospel message, “Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:1–4). In this passage, we see three essential elements of the gospel message.
First, the phrase “died for our sins” is very important. As Romans 3:23 tells us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The reality of sin needs to be acknowledged by all who approach the throne of God for salvation. A sinner must acknowledge the hopelessness of his guilt before God in order for forgiveness to take place, and he must understand that the “wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Without this foundational truth, no gospel presentation is complete. Second, the person and work of Christ are indispensable components of the gospel. Jesus is both God (Colossians 2:9) and man (John 1:14). Jesus lived the sinless life that we could never live (1 Peter 2:22), and, because of that, He is the only one who could die a substitutionary death for the sinner. Sin against an infinite God requires an infinite sacrifice. Therefore, either man, who is finite, must pay the penalty for an infinite length of time in hell, or the infinite Christ must pay for it once. Jesus went to the cross to pay the debt we owe to God for our sin, and those who are covered by His sacrifice will inherit the kingdom of God as sons of the king (John 1:12). Third, the resurrection of Christ is an essential element of the gospel. The resurrection is the proof of the power of God. Only He who created life can resurrect it after death, only He can reverse the hideousness that is death itself, and only He can remove the sting that is death and the victory that is the grave’s (1 Corinthians 15:54–55). Further, unlike all other religions, Christianity alone possesses a Founder who transcends death and who promises that His followers will do the same. All other religions were founded by men and prophets whose end was the grave. Finally, Christ offers His salvation as a free gift (Romans 5:15; 6:23), that can only be received by faith, apart from any works or merit on our part (Ephesians 2:8–9). As the apostle Paul tells us, the gospel is “the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile” (Romans 1:16). The same inspired author tells us, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). These, then, are the essential elements of the gospel: the sin of all men, the death of Christ on the cross to pay for those sins, the resurrection of Christ to provide life everlasting for those who follow Him, and the offer of the free gift of salvation to all.got ? hope this helps !!!

Just remember, Satan knows the facts of the Gospel better than anyone.
You don't get born again by believing certain things, but by experiencing a miracle of grace.
Some beliefs will naturally flow out of that.

Some beliefs will naturally flow out of that. Are you saying you can be saved without hearing the message of the gospel ? Paul says in Roman’s 10:9-13 that one must confess Jesus is Lord and believe in his heart that God raised Him from the dead to be saved . Romans 10 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lordwill be saved.” 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!

Just remember, Satan knows the facts of the Gospel better than anyone. You don't get born again by believing certain things, but by experiencing a miracle of grace. Some beliefs will naturally flow out of that. Sure you get born again by believing certain things. Not sure where you're coming from by saying that you aren't. Believing isn't mentally assenting to certain facts however. One can say like a parrot, "I believe Jesus died for the sins of the world even mine!" but if they have no inclination to make Jesus KING and Lord over their life all the mental assents mean nothing. Titus 2 :11 tells us the GRACE of God teaches us something....that we're to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and that we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world and that's called the GRACE of God teaching that. So God looks at the sinner who has allowed themselves to be awakened to see a need to be born again and to have a changed life. The preaching of the gospel was and is to tell the sinner what God has done on the cross. Will they come into agreement with that and IDENTIFY with the various things HE HAS SAID he did on the cross YES or NO. If they do they break with Satan's Kingdom and God translates them out of the Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of his Son by his power and LIFE. Believing isn't just mentally assenting but it's a verb....ACTION....you receive Jn 1:12 or one could say IDENTIFY with what he said by the confession of your mouth. THEN GOD imparts the miracle of his grace...Eternal Life. For with the heart man BELIEVES UNTO righteousness Rom 10...you can't believe unto righteousness if you haven't been instructed there's things for you to believe and accept. And with the mouth confession is made....UNTO--->unto salvation. It's not salvation and then confession it's confession and THEN salvation. Your statement, "You don't get born again by believing certain things, but by experiencing a miracle of grace." sounds very Calvinistic to me which I guess I'm wrong for I see you on the other site resisting that way of thinking. No offence but it is an awkward thing that you say though because it sounds like regeneration BEFORE believing.

Some beliefs will naturally flow out of that. I can dig it. You don't get born again by "just" believing certain things. Thats is a shallow understanding of salvation and the gospel, known as “easy-believism.” I plan to start a thread on Lordship Salvation in the Doctrine / Theology Board today. Hopefully it will shed some light on experiencing the miracle of grace.

That is why I quoted Romans 10:9-15 where Paul talks about the gospel- it deals with both the mind and the heart with believing and confessing Jesus is Lord and the Resurrection ( the heart of the gospel ). The Apostles in Acts preached the Risen Lord is every account. Its the main theme in 1 Corinthians 15 where the gospel is defined and Paul spends the entire chapter explaining the Resurrection body. I remember reading Francis Shaeffer saying that if he had one hour to witness to someone, he'd spend the first 45-minutes convincing them of their sin! The good news that there is a cure for cancer is pragmatically meaningless unless you know you have cancer! Doug

I heard RC Sproul say that over 90% of seminary graduates could not accurately convey what the gospel is so it’s no wonder so many have a distorted or false gospel . Here is RC below : There is no greater message to be heard than that which we call the gospel. Sproul left out that the gospel is something to be obeyed, (2 Thess 1:8) not just some historic events to be thought about.

I see the gospel in the parable of the sinner (tax collector) vs the religious (pharisee)
the religious person thinks they must work to earn it.. That it is based on how good they are. and what church traditions they keep.
The sinner got on his knees, unable to look up. and cried out for Gods mercy.
Jesus said we must become poor in spirit to enter the kingdom. I learned a few months ago how deep this is. The term translated poor actually means literally bankrupt. or hopeless or destitute.
The sinner thought he had something to offer. His righteousness (I am a good person, I keep the law. I am not like the evil sinner) His tradition, or jewish or church works (circumcision, or water baptism etc etc) and the fact he was born into Gods family (my parents were Gods chosen people. or were members of a church)
the tax collector. unable to even look up to God because of his sin, fell down, and humbled himself to the point of hopelessness in this bankrupt state, called out for Gods mercy..
Remember who Jesus said went home justified..

What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is the good news which is the power of God that brings forth salvation to everyone who believes...... I always find this question problematic because in the layman's sense your answer is completely correct and that is all anyone needs to know for a working definition of the term "gospel." However, there is a lot more going on in that single word than God bringing forth salvation (to be had by grace through faith). The word "Gospel" was political term that had specific meaning in the Roman Empire. It's not a Hebrew nor Aramaic term. The Greek word " euangelion" is translated as "good news" but it should not be understood as just any good news or any " akoe kalon". The Greek word for good is " kalon" and the Greek word for news is " akoe". When the New Testament writers wrote of salvation provided by Jesus they were not speaking any mere akoe kalon, they were speaking about a specific kind of akoe kalon that was in those days an euangelion, and the use of that word makes a big difference because it carried with it some very significant difference. An euangelion, or gospel, was a specific kind of announcement that was made when a great leader, usually a Caesar or a general, had one a great victory. A gospel was announced when Julius Caesar defeated the Gauls in battle at Alesia. Another gospel was announced when he was deified. Every time a Caesar was deified a gospel was announced. This is the term the New Testament writers chose to use (or were directed by God to use ) when they spoke of God's work through His resurrected Son. They were appropriating Roman propaganda. Jesus had won a great victory. Jesus had won a great victory and he wasn't just a man who had been deified to live in the Elysian Fields. He was in fact God, and He had defeated sin and death, and come back from the grave - something not even Caesar had done. And if you believe it then you can have eternal life, the very same victory over sin and death that God's Son had. You can be better than Caesar by sharing in Christ's victory and becoming just like him (whereas the Caesars are all really burning in hell). That is the gospel.
